Weekend intensive in Stockholm, SWE

In this class we focus on the bare bones of suspension technique and purpose.
Suitable for students who are new to the subject of suspension work, but not new to tying in general. Or, for students of rope with a bit more experience, who nonetheless have an interest in Tamanduas particular style of kinbaku, wishing to sharpen their skillset under the guidance of his and Brikis guidance.

Tamandua and Briki will teach the most important principles of upline/suspension usage, and how it interacts with rope structures (harnesses etc), and with the body itself in a experiential as well as anatomical sense.
The weekend will be heavy on technical explanations and drills. Despite this, we aim to incorporate them into pleasurable explorations of concepts throughout as well.

Taking this workshop is also highly recommended if you wish to attend more advanced classes from Tamandua in the future, including majority of all international intensives offered.

TOPICS

  • What does an upline do? Understanding uplines as a tool for control and effect.

  • What makes a tie suspendable? Focus on proper tension and placement when tying harnesses and single column for a suspension scene

  • Basic suspendable versions of some of Tamanduas common patterns - TK/gote, tengu, futomomo, legs together harness

  • Technical drills for safely attaching and locking, lifting and lowering lines with ease

  • Surrender, resistance and flow - perspectives on being in ropes

  • Introduction to common shape categories: gyaku ebi (facedown backbend), torsions, M-shape (spread leg), face up

  • General safety: nerve damage, efficiency vs solidity, risk evaluation

    PREREQUISITES FOR ATTENDING

Be able to, with ease, tie a single column tie which does not collapse or open when pulled. Please practice a lot before the workshop!
Be able to tie some kind of solid harnesses on the floor. Meaning the ropes should not loosen or shift placement on the skin when the models position is changed (ex from crouching to stretching out). Neither should they cause onbvious circulation loss or pain.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: Some basic familiarity with how suspension works, as showed and explained by a teacher or experienced student of shibari.
This is to ensure everyone in the group has some basic references for understanding the instructions well.
If you do not have this, please contact an instructor or rope group near you for advice prior to the event.

    BRING

  • A kit of jute ropes sold for the purpose of shibari/kinbaku, so called single ply, around 6mm thick.
Minimum 7 ropes of standard length (ca 7,5-8 meters) and 1 cut into a couple of shorter bits.
Ropes from hardware stores, boat shops, or sex shops intended for bedroom bondage are generally not well suited for this type of tying.

  • Safety shears

  • A climbing sling or extra long rope to put up as your suspension point

  • 4 carabiner OR 1 ring and 2+ carabiner

    HOW TO APPLY

Application is done by sending an email to tamanduaengstrom@gmail.com or via the contact form here https://www.tamanduakinbaku.com/contact

Please include a simple introduction of yourself and your partner which in short summary describes your experience with shibari such as where you have been learning from and if you have any experience with suspension or TK prior.
Ideally also include a couple of pictures of your tying from the past 6 months. These do not have to be impressive at all, any images will do.

Payment info and exact address will be given once your spot is confirmed.

Weekend Masterclass @Sihl13 in Zürich, Switzerland [SOLD OUT]

  • Google Calendar ICS

Hosted by Luhmen D’arc in Zürich Click here for event!

This weekend Tamandua – joined by partner Briki – will come to Zürich for a suspension and play-focused rope workshop on Saturday & Sunday. They will teach a mix of fairly simple and challenging ways of tying based on some of Tamandua's currently most frequently used ties.

Saturday & Sunday – suitable for people with an intermediate up to an advanced experience level – each day will start with guided improvisation-based exercises. This gives us time to bond with our partner and rope while practicing what can be described as some of the more subtle, or intuitive skills relating to our tying. Before the lunch break, there will be a pattern run-through and technical practice of a suspendable harness: Tamandua’s hands-in-front harness on day 1 and his preferred way to tie Takate Kote on day 2.

In the afternoons we work on longer, complex full-suspension shapes using the harnesses from the morning. These require a certain level of commitment from both rigger and model and can be rather challenging. To contrast these challenges there will also be the opportunity to learn a more straightforward, minimalist tie in the same afternoon.

The event is sold out - if you can attend spontaneously with a partner, getting on the waiting list may be an option!.

Body in Ropes - workshop @Sihl13 in Zürich, Switzerland [SOLD OUT]

Organised by Luhmen D’arc in Zürich Click here to see event!

When we play with shibari we put our bodies, and our partner’s bodies, through plenty of absurd and fascinating situations. From the twisting lock of a shoulder in a TK to the compress and pull of a suspension line. Without question this is fundamental to the attractive power of rope bondage; how it provides such a unique experience and can touch us deeply. Tying opens up a whole new spectrum of positions, limitations, and sensations so unusual from what we can expect or recognize in other parts of life. You could say that shibari has a distinct somatic language of its own.

But to put ourselves (and each other) in these positions which may be bizarre, and often challenging, requires a great deal of trust, as well as respect for our body and what it can do for us.

How can we better get to know this unusual version of the body - the body in ropes?

In this 5 hour class Briki and Tamandua will guide us through a series of exercises where we explore our own and our partner’s bodies in relation to common situations in shibari/kinbaku. We will use simple movement, body manipulation, palpation, and tying as tools. The tying will be basic enough that even beginner level students of shibari will be able to try them when aided with a bit of technical support from the instructors or a more experienced participant.

Tamandua and Briki will share some insight into the logic of classic shapes and ties from an anatomical and rope technical point of view. What happens in our body, and how does the rope make the body do that? Also, what are common reasons when it doesn't work as expected? How can seemingly similar ties feel so different depending on slight changes?

They will go through some tips and tricks for models and riggers in order to better understand and work around common issues that cause unwanted forms of discomfort and stress, trouble with body management, and safety concerns from a body-focused perspective.

The event is sold out - if you can attend spontaneously, getting on the waiting list in case a participant has to cancel may be worth it!

Weekend Intensive in Barcelona, ES @Espacionos

  • Google Calendar ICS

This is 2-day long workshop focused on partials for torment and pleasure hosted by Espacionos in Barcelona.

Tamandua will teach a number of his favourite ties that combine the solidness of the floor with the pull of suspension lines to create beautiful and intense shapes.
Together with his partner Briki he will share some insights into how the shapes are fine-tuned to achieve intentional balance and effect, and how one can understand such technical challenges with compassionate awareness from both model and rigger perspectives.

The skill level will be around upper intermediate. This means that participants need prior experience with making and locking suspension lines, as well as knowing how to tie a solid TK to follow the class content. These skills must have been learned from an experienced shibari instructor/teacher IRL. Or if self-taught, have been overviewed properly by one before the date of the event.
Meeting requirements are important so that the student can properly understand the content of the class, and to make sure that the group can work alongside each other at a somewhat uniform speed and need for individual support.

More event details and booking link via the organiser venue page https://www.espacionos.com/
